I own two! - Edelrid Mega Jul Belay Device

Been sport climbing for a while. I remember when tubers and atc's first came out. i remember the first gri-gri. Jul is by far my favorite. so light! I just climb with it clipped to my harness. so simple, no convoluted magical ritual and hours of practice to belay your partner on lead, just take or pay out slack as needed. no worries of short roping and always a softer catch. I can use it for multi-pitch or sport. mostly sport. two methods of rappelling depending on ones needs during descent. this actually made belaying fun again! i liked my first one so much i bought another just in case i loose one. there so light and small as compared to the grigri brick and half the cost. i figured why not, just in case i misplace or drop one. as for me being belayed by someone using a Jul, i make no distinction as regards to peace of mind between the Jul, gri-gri, or the Revo. if i'm leading i'd prefer to be belayed by either the Jul or Revo. the Jul is a fraction of the cost and more versatile than the Revo (which i also love). so if i had to just pick one it honestly would be the Jul.
Pros:
Ease of use
Light and cheap
made belaying fun again
Cons:
unless you which it to the atc side, rappelling can be "interesting"
Best Used for:
from sport to trad
