I bought this for potential use in case of a power outage. Sure enough, there was one during this winter... No power, thus no heating in my apartment. I hadn't had time to purchase denatured alcohol, but had a supply of 90% alcohol on hand. I watched a YouTube video comparing different alcohol fuels, and some produced soot when cooking, others better... When I left the flame open, without attempting to heat water or cook, 90% alcohol worked fine. If I were to try to put anything on the burner for cooking purposes, 90% alcohol would soot the pan up. So, for emergency warming purposes, 90% alcohol fuel works okay for space heating, otherwise denatured alcohol would be better for cooking purposes.
The burner burned for about 30 minutes before needing to be refueled. It cools off quickly, so you don't have to wait long to refuel safely, thus it works fine for emergency heating, like I wanted it for, and I also have it available if I want to go camping. However, I do highly recommend buying the Trangia fuel bottle too... The Trangia fuel bottle makes refueling this alcohol burner with alcohol, and another for refueling my hurricane lamps with paraffin oil easy with no spills... Just a thought, which works well for me...
I highly recommend this product. It works well, is versatile, cost effective, and safe when used properly!
