Ryan B.'s Review of Eureka Midori Solo Backcountry Tent

I spent two night backpacking in the Sawtooth wilderness in Idaho in this tent and found it to be an extremely good compromise when compared to most expensive ultralight tents on the market. I couldn't bring myself to spend $300-$400 on a high-end ultralight tent just to shave a pound of weight. Overall, it's fairly light, packs down well, seems durable and has a roomy vestibule. This tent weighed in right at 3.5 lbs. on my scales after I replaced the guylines with 1.8-mm cord and the original aluminum stakes with titanium ones. One major bonus is the large vestibule space which provides plenty of room for my gear and Australian shepherd. I didn't experience any rain on this trip so I can't vouch for how it handles weather, but I did experience some high winds (40+ mph gusts) and the tent didn't budge with the guylines staked out.

Pros:
1. Low cost.
2. Large vestibule.
3. Simple two pole design with good stability and durable construction.
4. Not too heavy and packs down well for multi-day solo trips.

Cons:
1. Low quality, heavy guylines and stakes (but these are easy and don't cost much to replace).
2. Interior tent is a little tight. It's only 32-in wide with a 36-in peak height, so my 6'2" broad-shouldered frame felt a little cramped when changing inside the tent, however the overall length was more than adequate for stretching out.

I highly recommend this tent for a budget minded solo backpacker (especially if you hike with a dog) who doesn't want to spend twice as much for an ultralight tent that lightens you bank account much more than your overall pack weight. I'm giving it only 4 stars because the guylines were heavy/low quality and the tent interior is a little tight. I would gladly sacrifice some of the vestibule space just to have a little more elbow room and a couple extra inches of peak height. All around still a great tent that I look forward to using for a long time.
