holoman's Review of Fjallraven Abisko Midsummer Jacket - Men's

Fjallraven sells waterproof clothing, but most of their traditional jackets are constructed of some variety of their G-1000 material, a poly/cotton blend that can be waxed to increase water repellency.
The Midsummer Jacket's hybrid construction combines light, stretchy G-1000 fabric in the shoulders, upper arms and hood with a light poly in the rest of the garment. It's made to protect you from sun and wind in warm climates and to be very breathable. And it works! No need to sweat so much if its not raining and if it is, pull on a rain shell over the Midsummer. A well made relatively light jacket for all those mild days. Wear a light or heavyweight baselayer under it on colder days. Haven't tested it in high mountains but it should work fine at the lower elevations and desert. You may have to go one size larger than usual if you have a big chest and broad shoulders or don't want a tight fit.
Pros:
  • Breathability, relatively light weight, well made
Cons:
  • Breathable material not water resistant
  • Breathable fabric not water resistant
Best Used for:
  • General outdoor, hiking backpacking
