Tom X's Review of Fjallraven Kajka 65L Backpack

Adjustability - Check. Durability - Check. Responsible Manufacturing - Check. Functionality - Check. My favorite aspects: 1) The linear cinch-down by using rods near the face panel. 2) The lower compartment and separate entry for things like a sleeping bag and pad, along with venting for wet items asking the hike. 3) The top entry with two separate cinch points allows the creation of a "bowl" under the packs hood, which is very secure... this is wonderful for keeping easy access for a fleece and rain jacket. 4) The large drop-down entry on the face of the pack so you don't have to half-way empty the pack to get to middle items. 5) The pack does a great job of staying upright when you set it down... it may take a bit of shifting, but then it's good to go. 6) If you ever need to sleep sitting up, this pack offers a great brace... I think Army and Marine ground forces can attest to the wonders of that capability. Compared to all the other packs on the market, this pack is far ahead them all. So, the things that keep it from excellence...? 1) The design of the side pouches restricts their usability; a rocket-style pouch with pass-behind access would be better... this was the key rain from not giving it 5 stars. 2) The water bottle pouches are just awkward unless you are using it specifically for a GI style canteen... the pouches on their new Keb model pack seems more functional. 3) The mesh covering the padding can be abrasive, and it likes to chew-up shirts. So, when all is said and done, if you're a serious trekker and get out often, buy it.
