GSHP LOVER's Review of Garmin Alpha 100 Handheld and TT 10/15 Train Dog Device Set 010-01041-50
I am 76 going on 77 yrs old. Struggle at times with "tech" stuff/ A planer, simpler unit that simply indicates your dog distance and direction at a much lower price should be made available by Garmin and TriTronics. Been using Tritronics for years and exceptionally reliable. The Alpha 100 has always had the same reliability. Other than the extra "tech" for an oldtimer like myself, my biggest complaint is the unit ONLY GIVES ONE SIGNAL WHEN YOUR DOG GOES ON POINT. IF YOU HAPPEN TO NOT HEAR THE SIGNAL, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL FOLLOWUP SIGNALS LIKE THE "BEEPER COLLARS" i HAVE USED FOR YEARS. Of course, I am not implying Garmin should have a continuous "beeper" or signal on the dog itself. I have learned that those "continuous" beepers on the dogs end up with HEARING LOSS AT OLD AGE. Maybe old age itself contributes more than the "beepers." Who knows? What Garmin needs to do is either have a continuous beeper on the controlling unit, or at least a repeating signal that the operator could PRESET FOR HOWEVER LONG HE DESIRED BETWEEN REP[EATS. That way the operator is not spending all his time WA'TCHING THE HANDHELD TO SEE IF HIS DOG IS STILL ON POINT OR IF HE HAS COME OFF POINT AND MOVING. That would be a GREAT FEATURE THAT SURELY WOULDNT BE THAT HARD FOR THE "TECH GURUS" TO COME U[P WTH. tHANKS FOR LETTING ME EXPRESS MY CONCERNS. YES, i RECCOMEND ALL GARMIN AND TRITRONICS PRODUCTS. i SEE THE ALPHA 100 IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. THAT SADDENS ME BECAU[SE IT CO[ULD EASILY BE IMPROVED INSTEAD OF BEING DISCONTINUED.. EVEN IF MY SUGGESTIONS ARE TAKEN TO HEART BY GARMIN, I'LL STILL PROBABLY HAVE TO INVEST ANOTHER $1000 OR MORE FOR THE NEWER TECHNOLOGY. LARRY L KANSAS
