Black Rat's Review of Garmin Montana 700i Rugged GPS Touchscreen Navigator with inReach Technology

It has a viewable screen, it does not have 24k topographical maps but the maps loaded are acceptable. The Inreach feature of using satellites is really great for in the wilderness there are no cell towers, in fact many places away from cities and highways there are no cell towers. The entry level Inreach is about $12 a month, which is acceptable. My last Garmin GPS was a Colorado and the ease of use beats it hands down. The SOS and texting feature is wonderful for worried relatives and the unforeseen emergencies in the middle of nowhere. It even has an insurance rescue package for $24 a year roughly.
Pros:
  • big enough screen to see your location
Cons:
  • a little heavy
Best Used for:
  • Backpacking
  • cycling
