Mike from CT's Review of Gregory Salvo 8L H2O Pack

This bag has a lot to offer and a lot of things I really liked. So I’ve gone on some big day adventures with a frameless 7L race vest that had two 1/2 liter water bottle chest pockets. Weighed 10 oz. I wanted something that could hold a lot more water and still carry my med kit, jacket, snack(s), etc. all while remaining small and light. This backpack can do this but my gear was really tight and there was no room for even one more item. Also if you remove the hydration bladder and try to re-install it with your gear in, no bueno. Too tight. I think the 8L capacity shrinks to 5 when the bladder is full. Makes sense right but remember that when planning your purchase. The bag tho is what it says. It seems well made with durable materials. The bladder is the best I’ve owned and actually dries quickly. The mesh that allows some airflow on your back is Nice. I’ve never had a pack with a frame but I think it makes the added weight disappear and/or disperse. So what I decided was to buy the Salvo 16 and commit to even bigger, longer treks. This pack holds everything I will ever need minus a sleep system. The Cons for me: I wish the hip belt was removable. Also there’s no clear trekking pole (ice axe) holders but you Can secure them with some creativity. Hope it holds up.

  • None
