Randall's Review of Hanwag Tatra Bunion Lady Boots - Women's

I have been trying to find Hanwag Tatras that would fit my feet.
I preferred the older models that did not have the troublesome cam lace locks on the instep.
All of the post 2018 Tatra II Have these cam locks. They are a perfectly good idea, that fails in real life.
After you cinch the locks, and then tighten the lower lace hooks the forward laces loose there tension. One could achieve the benefit these are supposed to provide by tying a single or double overhand knot, behind the instep lace guides. then when cinching the laces under the lower hooks tension would be maintained.
I wear a mans 9.5US but have a narrow heel on the right foot and a high instep. I also have bunion like bumps on the outside of my feet at the little toe joint. This is why I tried the "bunion". Unfortunately I discovered that "bunion" means more room at the big toe side, and above it to allow for crossed toes Woman's shoes generally have a higher instep, a narrower heel, and to my dismay a narrower forefoot. The length was perfect, no toe contact. If you are a mans 9,5 with big toe issues, and a b/c width foot these would fit you niceley. The insoles are junk, so you will want new ones. The Tatra IIs have nice insoles.
Ultimately I chose the wide leather lined, but Hanwag is not distributing them to the us so I had to order from Germany. Had to settle for the Tatra II, and deal with the cam locks. I went with leather lined because of my colossal disappointment with gore-Tex in 3 pairs of boots.
It has been a four month process finding the right boots, but hopefully worth it.
