A great idea... - Kelty Tru. Comfort 35 Sleeping Bag Synthetic

I bought this because I can't stand the claustrophobic feeling and inability to move around in a mummy bag. The folks from Kelty told me this would be a great fit for me. My previous bag had been the best one on the planet (the Nemo Nocturne), and I will try not to allow bias to interfere with my review of this thing.

When it comes to innovation, I give this bag an A. I love the idea Kelty had in designing it, and its versatility for warmer and cooler nights with the blanket inside seems authentic.

When it comes to warmth, I give it another A. I used it in 30 degree weather and stayed warm (I'm 5'11 and 210 pounds).

When it comes to usability, I actually give it a C. It was an obnoxious pain to zip the thing up when inside the bag and additionally challenging to unzip it when needing to get out in the middle of the night. The cord that is used to synch up the opening around your face was a huge hassle as it didn't seem to want to do that.

Finally, when it comes to overall comfort, it's actually a pretty comfortable bag once you have settled into it, have it zipped up, and pull the inside blanket in close to you. So perhaps the biggest question at this point is would I recommend it? My answer to that is: it depends. If you're on a tight budget and want a bag that could be used for both backpacking and car camping, then this might work for you (only if you have a 65 liter backpack or larger (preferably, 90 or more)). If you are planning on using this for only backpacking, then pay some more money for something lighter weight and more compressible. If you want only a car camping bag for spring, summer, and fall months, then I think I'd recommend a rectangular bag instead.
