These are my first trekking poles - like 'em so far. Definitely help with balance and wear-and-tear on the joints. Used them to hike in the Colorado Front Range foothills, and we hit some mixed ice and mud terrain, a narrow trail with a fairly steep dropoff, and the poles helped considerably.
