AZ Hunter's Review of Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400 Boots - Men's
This is my first purchase of Kenetrek boots. I bought a 1/2 size larger than my normal shoe size to accommodate thicker socks for extreme cold weather - but my feet normally run cold.
My initial impression was that the fit was very stiff and rigid, but not uncomfortable - just different. The soles felt harder than I’m used to wearing, but I’m very pleased with the rigidity. It felt a bit tight over the instep initially, but I wore them around the house for about 4 hours. Suddenly, my feet were melded with the boots. Now it is a perfect fit and very comfortable. Everybody will have a different experience with their fit and beak in, but it is worth the effort. Some people have reported an extended break in period, but that was not the case for me.
I have worn them on multiple hikes covering 68 miles without any issues. The hard soles bite into the ground surface and stay where planted, and the stiff insoles reduce fatigue when ascending or descending inclines.
I have worn another brand of boots for 20+ years and these Kenetrek boots provide substantially stronger ankle support, which will help to prevent ankle rolling and sprains. This is very important to me hunting in the rocky areas of Arizona.
These boots have great materials, construction, and workmanship throughout them. In my humble opinion, they are well worth the purchase price. If in doubt - do it! You won’t be disappointed! Good luck in your outdoor experiences!
