Chis in Montana's Review of Klymit LiteWater Dinghy LWD Packraf
I purchased one of these directly from Klymit, as he price was right and I am an avid packrafter here in NW Montana with the thought that it miht make a reasonable back up to my single chamber packraft or a third boat if we want to bring a friend on mild water. After 3 years of use, here are a few of my thouhts. 1) The paddling characteristics are terrible. It pivots more than a whitewater kayak (I used to take my Dancer out on he lake back in he day for kicks and could manage it reasonably). 2) The inflation bag works really well. It’s not enough volume to inflate a packraft efficiently, but Klymit made the perfect inflator for this 3) it does not pack as small as a Nalgene bottle, but the complete package is still pretty small.. 4) It is useful for tethering behind another paddle craft in mild water (fun for small kids or a soft cooler). 5) It has been great for ferrying equipment across fast moving/no fall zone water crossings with P cord tethering either end. 6) it was slow leaking air by the third use. It still works fine for crossings, but I wouldn’t depend on it for any period of longer than 30 minutes or so.
Retrospectively, I could have lived without this purchase, but it has been an amusing thing to have and play around with. Most water crossings don’t justify carrying it, but it was really useful for one deep, fast, and very cold one with lots of gear and a consequential run out. Do not think that this is a packraft alternative.
Pros:
Light, cheap
Cons:
No tracking, not durable, very limited use
