Mason's Review of Kuhl Kollusion Jacket - Mens

I got this jacket in pirate blue on clearance for $99 which was a steal. I'm 6'4, 190lbs and the size Large fits like a glove. If I were heavier it would be too tight, mostly at the bottom. Overall this jacket is dope and looks awesome - I get compliments on it all the time. It has an oiled cloth feel because it's water repellent. I don't regret the purchase one bit, especially for the price. But there are a couple of things that could be improved. First - the hood makes the collar really thick & stiff when it's stowed which might bother some people. Second, there's no liner or insulation which is fine for me. I wanted a lightweight jacket so didn't buy it for that anyway. Plus it's still good in the wind. With a base layer and Patty nano vest I've kept plenty warm in very cold, windy, snowy conditions without wearing anything too bulky. However there are also no interior pockets which also might bother some people (myself included). Lastly, there's no elastic or drawstring or ease around the bottom and the zipper is only 1-way, not a 2-way where you can unzip the bottom part upward. So it's a little tight when sitting down with it zipped. You also won't be able to reach into your pants pocket either. I still give it 4 stars. If Kuhl fixed any one of those issues I'd give it 5 stars. If they fixed them all I'd give it 10. My solution was to buy some canvas material ($5) and take it to the tailor to have some interior pockets sewn in along the same seam lines as the outside pockets so you can't even tell. I also had her cut the hood off & sew some velcro on there to make it removable. And cut a couple of 2" slits on the sides to relax the fit just a bit. Now it's perfect. Plus I have custom hidden pockets with velcro flaps & seam separators to hold things like my phone & sunglasses securely. I can even carry an iPad in there. It's my all around go to jacket for everything short of a torrential downpour. It's so lightweight it rolls up very tightly so it's really easy to stow & pack. Which is nice because it looks so good (and now uber functional) so I want to take it everywhere with me anyway.
