Lightweight yet warm - Lowa Innox Ice GTX Mid Winter Boot - Men's

I purchased these boots for short/moderate walks here in Wyoming, when I don't want to put on all my heavy-duty gear for a long day out. I just wore them for my second walk today, and they are performing perfectly! The winters here can get quite cold (-10F today at the start, 3F the other day), and where I go for short walks down around the plains lakes the snow is typically dry, occasionally drifted and wind-packed. These boots, while not super-heavily insulated, have been keeping my feet plenty warm. I like the low-profile, sneaker-style fit and it does well in moderate off-trail walks over rocks and deadfall. They also do surprisingly well on water-ice patches, and seem to grip as well as felt-soled boots do in those conditions. There's not much liquid water to step in, but the Gore-Tex does a good job of keeping the wind (typically fierce here) out, and making the shoe surprisingly warm for a lightweight shoe. These are great walking boots for cold weather, for short walks where you're always moving. They'd not be enough for really cold (anything much below -10F), or for long periods of standing. They're not made for that. I also will not be using these boots for snowshoes, as the uppers are simply too soft to support typical snowshoe bindings. They would allow your feet to be crushed, and then they'd get cold. I'm a little concerned about how well they uppers will stand up to any amount of post holing through wind slab but, once again, if that's the conditions, wear heavier boots.
