These pants were perfectly breathable and water/wind resistant. They were good for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and ice climbing. Knees did soak through with ice climbing - it was a wet and drippy day - 45 degrees. The next day I wore two long underwear layers and did not get wet or cold with the ice climbing. Also, they didn't get dirty at all after 6 days in the back country. Seem to be
