IndieMama's Review of Marmot L Avant Featherless Hoody - Women's
First of all, I love Marmot coats. I've tried many other high end brands, Patagonia (which always run too small IMO and dont allow for broad shouldered women), The North Face (nice fit, but the Artic Parka was too bulky for me), Columbia (not the quality I desire), Pajar (nice coats, but so heavy), and Marmot has been the best fit and function for me. I'm 145lbs, 5'3" with a smaller bust (36C) and broad shoulders for my frame. I also have the Marmot Avant featherless hoody in the shorter style, which has a slimmer overall fit but comes in a yummy berry purple which I love. This coat is very warm, nicely water resistant but the medium which I ordered fits a little on the bigger side and the bottom of the coat has a very A-line style, which makes it flare like a bell. It does not fit close to the body like the Marmot Montreaux in medium which I also own and love (though the shoulders on that one are snug because it runs small -- in that coat I only ever wear a light shirt or else I cant move). This coat reaches to the tops of my knees, so if you are short like me be prepared for a longer fit. I happen to like that, because I hate being exposed to the elements, but I'm not 100% sold on the flare at the bottom, which lets in a lot of cold air. I could size down to the small, but then I'm afraid it wouldnt fit in the shoulders, I like that I can wear a sweatshirt under this and not feel constricted. Overall a really nice coat and a great alternative for people who are sensitive to down or who want something that will hold heat longer when wet. It's truly a lightweight coat that brings the warmth (keep in mind I live in Oregon so I dont get monster winters here) and delivers nice fit and function.
