Matthew M.'s Review of Marmot Stockholm II Jacket - Men's

I’ll preface this by saying I am not an alpinist, so if you’re looking for a jacket to hang off Mt. Everest with, I’m not the dude whose opinion you want ;). BUT, I have tried many a down jacket from North Face, Patagonia, etc, and as my EVERYDAY kicking around during cold weather jacket? This one WINS. So many points for style. I just love the look of it. Doesn’t have that garbage bag shiny look so many down jackets do. For warmth, it is very warm and has enough rain resistance to get you from A to B in the city without soaking through. It’s a bit bulkier than some, but that’s kinda what I like about it as an everyday jacket and I usually just wear a t-shirt under it anyway. I have lighter hoodies etc like Mountain Hardwear Ghostwhisperer etc which I do love, but they’re more specific for long hikes etc. This jacket I dig for going out and about town when it’s cold. I actually love the style so much that I don’t want to wear it camping etc because I don’t want to jack it up! People can argue about the down count being lower than others, but this is sufficient down. Again I have a TNF 950 fill down jacket and yes it’s great, but I don’t notice an ASTRONOMICAL difference in warmth. It’s a slimmer jacket for sure and the down is more compact inside the baffles, but again, different jackets for different uses. I don’t sacrifice much in warmth or comfort with this Stockholm and the style DESTROYS my TNF 950 fill jacket. Some people don’t care about style and that’s fine. I don’t either when I’m out on the trail or camping. But honestly I do care when I’m out and about. Not in a narcissistic way but I like a jacket that has some good funk to it, and this does. I also love the removable hood. It’s cozy as hell. Also got a killer discounted sale here on Campsaver for the Deep Forest Green color and I am in love. Dark green is my favorite color (hunter, forest, etc) and it’s hard to find a green that doesn’t have some bright lime-ish color attached to it somewhere. This one is just Dark Forest with subtle silver zippers. Needle in the haystack. And like wearing your favorite sleeping bag. Dig it!
