Poor lacing - heel of foot rises up - Merrell Ontario 85 Hiking Shoe - Men's

philly215's Review of Merrell Ontario 85 Hiking Shoe - Men's
The problem I had with these shoes was that no matter how much I tightened the laces, my heel would rise up inside the shoe when I stepped forward. The lacing configuration isn't ideal if you want your foot securely in place for hiking or even light hiking. With their retro looks, they probably have more appeal as a casual shoe, Speaking of retro, there's a reason that hiking shoes don't look like this anymore - lacing systems have improved, and they now secure your foot in the shoe much better. Besides my heel rising up as described, the size 10 pair that I ordered seemed true to size, length and width, plus a roomy toe box. Good heel cushioning as well. They didn't work for me as a light hiker, but you may want a pair for casual use. YMMV.
Pros:
Nice retro styling
Cons:
Poor lacing configuration
Best Used for:
Casual

No
