Cameron Youngstrom's Review of Misty Mountain Cadillac Harness
I got the L classic with the double backing waist straps. I say a number of different comments on sizing that were conflicting and not having a local option to try one on I threw the dice and got a large. I normally wear a 34 waist in pants but the tape measure said I was 37" which according to the MM sizing meant I should get an XL. The fit suggestion that came with the harness says that for ideal comfort the padding in the front should have a gap no larger than 3", I have ~5" so apparently the XL would have worked... I'm not sure it really matters as the harness is still very comfortable, the gear loops are right where I want them to be (say other reviews saying that they ended too far back if they went up a harness size...) and there is more than enough strap left over to double back and tuck out of the way. I wore this thing for the 1st time last weekend at the Meadow River on a traversing trad route and it was flawless. I like the extra gear loops as I can put lesser used items on the lower loops and still access them. Another thing I saw in other reviews was concern over weight, to me the comfort and real-estate provided by this harness make this a non-issue, I didn't notice any difference in weight but I did notice the lack of pinching when fully loaded with my rack and as I lowered down...
A couple things I wish were different:
#1 I wish this had a rear loop that spanned the entire back between the last two loops to stash my anchor stuff, ATC, etc
#2 Its been a while since I had a double back harness and I forgot how much nicer the newer designs are for getting them on/off and adjusted. This double back design is rock solid on this model but I do miss the ease of use... If I ever wear this thing out I am going to go with the quick buckle option.
Pros:
COMFORT
well built and tough
Cons:
double back buckle
missing rear gear loop
Would Recommend:
Yes
