jake's Review of Montane Hydrogen Extreme Jacket - Mens
I wanted this jacket for cold weather activities that require lots of movement and therefore I needed a jacket that is warm enough at brief standstills and breathes well when sweating. I haven't had this jacket in extended sub-freezing weather yet, but I was able to wear it for about 30 minutes on a brisk hike at 35degF before I needed to take it off. This is much longer than most jackets would allow before overheating and sweating through my layers. Additionally, this jacket has excellent pockets and two way zipper for harness and backpack compatibility. The inside is super soft and cozy. The only downfall is that Alpha fleece is super catchy and it is difficult to get your arm through the jacket without pulling the inner material and then having it bunch on your arms. While putting the jacket on can be finicky, it is intended to be comfortably worn all day long in deep winter climbing, which is a tradeoff worth it for the high breathability.
Pros:
Breathability
Mobility
Cons:
sleeves bunch inside
Best Used for:
winter hiking
winter climbing
