MikeH's Review of Montane Minimus Stretch Ultra Jacket, Rain Jacket
I bought this jacket primarily for running, both in the cold and the rain. I sweat a LOT, and with every other running jacket I have, including an expensive GoreTex one, I'm dripping under the jacket by the end of my runs. Not so with the Montane Minimus Stretch Ultra. It really breathes well. It also has a 1.5" tab of fabric with a snap mid-chest behind the zipper. This allows me to unzip the jacket to get extra airflow as I get warm, but the snap keeps the front of the jacket from flapping around. There's another snap at the very bottom to hold the jacket together when fully unzipped.
I've only used it once in the rain, and the hood worked well, and it kept the rain out.
There's a waist drawstring that can be easily adjusted while running - which isn't very common in my experience.
This jacket is a little warmer than some of my other running jackets. Even for temps down to about 40, I'm able to run with a thin long sleeve running shirt and the jacket. The zipper goes up all the way to my bottom lip - so it seals up the neck well.
I like to carry a phone (iPhone 12 Pro), and I was pleasantly surprised that having it in one of the pockets works really well. I expected it to bounce around, but I think the jacket's stiffer fabric helps with that.
The one small issue I've encountered is the elastic cuff at the wrist. I would have traded an ounce or two to get something that could go between sealed up tight, and looser for more airflow. I've found that if I pull a couple inches of shirt sleeve out past the jacket cuff, it wicks sweat pretty good (when it's not raining, of course).
I'm 6' 1", 175 pounds. The Large fits me fine. I think I could maybe have gotten away with a Medium.
Pros:
ventilation
Draw Strings
Dry
Cons:
Elastic wrist cuff
Best Used for:
Running - trail or road
running all weather
Would Recommend:
