Nicholas L.'s Review of Mountain Hardwear BMG 105 OutDry Backpack

I bought this pack for an upcoming trip to Denali and I've been training with it this winter in the NH White mountains. I've only used it four times now so this review is a bit early, but I'm also just about ready to give up on it and go back to my old Dana Designs Terraplane. I've used this with loads between 35 and 50 lbs on a couple of training day hikes and overnighters. The positives are 1. the size to weight 2. simple features 3. great ice axe/tool and crampon attachments and 4. what seem to be very durable materials although I haven't used it enough to really know. The biggest negative is the poor suspension. I do appreciate the light weight of the pack, but I would have sacrificed more weight to have better padding in the hips. No matter how I adjust the pack and the loads it has consistently been uncomfortable. Another negative is that when this is packed out the want/pole pockets are very hard to use. I don't recommend this pack. I think this pack will only get less comfortable as I add weight so I probably won't end up using it for the climb I bought it for.
