Neil W.'s Review of Mountain Hardwear Micro Ratio Hooded Down Jacket - Mens

I am going to keep the jacket but let me say it is not a perfect fit. I am 5'10" and 160 lbs. I bought a medium. It is pretty long and sticks out ~6" below my rain jacket, while my old similar mountain hardware jacket in the same size did not. Also, there is a lot of extra material in the front "belly" area and it is pretty tight through the shoulders and arms. I am not a body builder by any means, the cut on this thing is just a little "different". A large would definitely be too large in the body for me. That being said it is not weird enough for me to send it back and I will be wearing it because it is very light, it packs into its own pocket, it is pretty inexpensive, and it is treated down. I also bought the Mountain Hardware Plasmic Pant and I can say I am very dissatisfied with them. I will be giving them to a friend. Not a single pocket, elastic on the cuff which lets them ride up and then you get rain and snow in your boots, no drawstring in the waist so they want to sag down while you are active, and they aren't large enough to comfortably wear over much besides a base layer or some tights. If I got a size larger there is no way I could keep them up in the waist and they would be way too long. I have had a ton of Mountain Hardware gear over the years that has been great. Jackets, gloves, pants, shirts, a couple tents, a sleeping bag. I feel like this stuff I purchased is not of the same quality as the older generation items I have had. Too bad Mountain Hardware has become the new North Face. I guess it is hard to make things of quality when you are pushing them to fraternities and sororities at every college campus in the country. It is likely this will be the last Mountain Hardware gear that I ever purchase.
