Katniss EverDean's Review of Mountainsmith Tellurite 7075 OLS Trekking Pole
After many, many years of rugged service, one of my venerable BD Switchback poles snapped at one of the connections on a recent winter climb. Sad, but they certainly didn't owe me anything.
Researching, I quickly ordered a replacement pair of these based on middle-of-the-road price point and having two "quick-locks" on each pole (The Switchbacks had a press-button on lower section, which was OK, but no adjustability and tended to freeze so couldn't collapse when wanted).
I've only used the Tellurites twice so far, but definitely was on both on a rugged climb and back-country sking. The twist-wheel adjustment is genius and I didn't experiance any issue with lock slipage others experienced after easy adjustment.
Here's my one negative/peeve: Though the idea of the soft straps makes perfect sense, especially if using bare-handed, they are very fussy to not have twist on themselves, particularly with heavy gloves. I was trying to "train" them all day with little success. I would prefer simple nylon webbing, but your mileage may vary. Again, probably really great bare-handed in summer.
Pros:
Good value
Cons:
Straps too soft
Best Used for:
Bare-handed, not gloved?
Would Recommend:
Yes
