rcMike's Review of Optimus Svea

I just got back from a couple of days camping where the morning and nighttime temperatures were in the 30s and the Svea performed flawlessly. I didn't have to worry about fuel pressure like when isobutane canisters get cold. I still love my iso stoves but for cold weather, the Svea has always worked - especially when priming it (ie. lighting it on fire) and warming it up. It is not the fastest stove - if you want fast then get something like a MSR Windburner. If you want something light, then grab a Soto Windmaster. There's room for a stove for every season! I like that I don't have to buy fuel canisters for the Svea - pair it with a Trangia fuel bottle that has a safety valve and pour spout and refilling is super easy.
Pros:
  • reliability
  • Cool factor
Cons:
  • Weight
  • Priming is needed
Best Used for:
  • cold weather
  • waste reduction
