Wayne C.'s Review of Osprey Farpoint 40 L Backpack

I travel by plane a significant amount and have tried a few different bags. I always end up going back to the Osprey Farpoint 40 as my go to travel bag, particularly for backpacking cities.

I've found the 40l capacity to be very comfortable for living out of for a couple weeks at a time, even while carrying a small camera and laptop.

The backpack contains a number of handy attachment points and compression straps on the outside so coats, small pillows, a pack towel, and a water bottles can easily be carried without using up space inside of the pack. I have yet to have an airline even question whether or not I could carry this bag onboard. Although a few budget airlines have made me pay the large carry-on bag fee for it.

The main pocket contains several straps that help to compress and keep clothes organized. I no longer use packing cubes because of this. The laptop compartment resides in the middle pocket, which puts the weight of it near the outside of the bag (away from your back). With a lightweight laptop this isn't an issue but it could be something to keep in mind if you're carrying a larger laptop. With that said, the metal frame and hip/chest strap do a great job at supporting the weight of the pack go.

Overall I really can't say anything bad about the bag as long as it's big enough to fit your needs. It's layout and build quality are excellent and Osprey has a lifetime warranty to back it up although I haven't had a need to contact them about it yet.
