BC Tele's Review of Outdoor Research Blackpowder Pants - Mens
Before I bought these I read lots of reviews on them and nearly all said they were great pants. I was looking for some waterproof breathable hard shell pants with at least 4 zip pockets, and with no insulation, and adequate venting for those long skin-ups and for warm days. These seemed to have it all, but when I got them was surprised by how hefty they felt. Campsaver's specs for these lists the weight as 23.5 ounces, which seemed reasonable, but when I weighed them was not surprised to learn they weigh in at 39.5 ounces! Having my pants weigh 2.5 pounds cancels out any reductions in ski gear weights I have been trying to get. I have yet to use these as we have no snow so far here, so hard to say how they actually work, yet I expect they will weigh me down noticeably. It would be good if Campsaver could post the correct weight for these in the Specs section. Had this been the case I would not have bought them.
Pros:
thigh vents, 4 zip pockets, suspenders, not insulated.
Cons:
Way too heavy for back country skiing
Best Used for:
Lining my ski pants drawer, evidently.
Would Recommend:
No
