Most Helpful Positive Review Lightweight protection
This jacket provides good protection from moderate rain for up to a few hours before wetting out. Very light, not much warmth. Keep in mind no hand pockets so my hands often get extremely cold when caught in extended mountain thunderstorms.

The Helium II jacket is one of the lightest waterproof jacket in the market, classic product from Outdoor research. packs very small. but the fabric is very thin, you may need to be careful wearing it. Good for trail running. but not very durable for backpacking.
Pros:
  • light ,
Cons:
  • fabric is thiin

Great protection

Lightweight, compact protection. On the trail or just around town, this jacket is wonderful. For backpackers or just to keep in your car, this jacket stuffs down so compact you can keep it in your glove box. Waterproof and windproof, it is a wonderful addition to your belongings.

Great product

by rjambar, from MO, United States Written on December 16, 2019
Great product. size was as described. It is an ultralight item so don’t be expecting something that will stand up to heavy bushwhacking. Otherwise I highly recommend it. It continues the tradition of great products from OR.

Brad Sneed

This jacket was purchased for a thru hike of the PCT trail, I’ve only wore it once on a weekend hike in Mt Charleston and it worked incredible. I can’t wait to put it though a real test, it water proof but it also breathes incredible well and it’s style allows me to wear it out to a casual dinner.

OR Helium 2 fits big guys

by Hokie99, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on January 17, 2019
I was worried about the jacket fitting after reading the reviews. I am 6’4” and weigh in at 265. The XXL fit me well with a 800FP down puffer and base layer shirt on. It’s definitely form fitting but does not compress the down. With just a base layer under shirt and long sleeve shirt it fits with plenty of room. It is not baggy and I guess the close fit is to save weight. I like it. The bottom hem drops down to just below the belt loops ( about 2 inches below) so it’s not very long but will fit what I need it to do which is keep me dry while backpacking. Highly pleased with the jacket. If you don’t like an athletic fit in your jacket you probably won’t like it, if you are around my size. I have a slight gut at 48 years of age but not fat. If you have a sizable gut this will probably be to tight to be comfortable. This review is purely based on how it fit my frame and has not been put through the outdoor paces yet. But there are tons of reviews on its abilities to keep you dry and the overwhelming majority are positive.
Pros:
  • Utra light
Cons:
  • No pit zips
Best Used for:
  • ultra light backpacking

Rain Jacket

by Tugger, from TN, United States Written on July 21, 2018
I recently planned a trip to hike the John Muir trail and was looking for light weight gear that was functional. My outdoor research helium withstood the abuse of rainfall and didn't weigh me down. Just the item I needed to add to the collection.

Lighter than the HD

by Loren, from CA, United States Written on February 17, 2018
Like the title says, is constantly lighter than the HD. No pit zips, but it's still a great shell, and competitively priced. Fit is accurate. I'm 6ft, 150lbs, add slim torso with wide shoulders and the size small fits me perfectly, with even enough room underneath to accommodate layering with my OR Floodlight down jacket. Very high quality waterproof zippers, excellent stitching, and truly UL construction, without sacrificing overall quality.

UL dream!

by Louis-Philippe P., Verified Owner from QC, Canada Written on May 21, 2016
It's super light, even in size XL it is only 6.75 ounces on my scale. If you are looking to shave off some ounces and can do without side pockets, this is the jacket for you!

Ultralight Helium II rain jacket

by Allen E., Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on January 24, 2016
This jacket is feather lite and is a good fit. I would recommend getting it in one size up if you want to wear it over a warm puff jacket. When I'm out backpacking I tend to stay pretty warm so I think it will work nicely for me over some layers here in the Pacific Northwest.
