rwhiffen's Review of Outdoor Research Overdrive Convertible Glove - Men's

These are good gloves, but they're thin. The base glove is your typical polyester stretch material similar to a running shirt and they are unlined. Works well when you have those in-between temperature days. The mitten shell is windproof and water proof which works out good when you guess wrong on the weather. I had mine out this afternoon in 20-ish degree temps and the mitten made all the difference. The glove alone was like wearing nothing at all, without a liner the wind goes right through them. They're probably best for those 40-50 degree days when you're not sure if you need them or not, but don't want to carry your toasty lined gloves when it turns out to be too hot.

Being able to tuck the mitten away when you don't need it is fantastic, but a it does make the wrist a little bulky. Thankfully the wrist portion of the glove has the proper amount of length for it to rest below the bend point of my wrists so I don't notice the bulk.

The touch screen compatibility works well for operating my fitness app and the thumb works enough for the home button to work in an iphone 8 (it's not an actual button anymore, but a touch sensor that mimics a click). My other touch screen compatible gloves aren't 'touchy' enough to make the home button work so this is a plus.

I like the high-vis yellow and reflective lettering. I ride my bike at night and I'm always worried they won't see my black-gloved hands signaling. This will solve that worry. for me.
Pros:
  • multiple temperatures
  • water resistent mitten
Cons:
  • too thin base glove for my tastes
Best Used for:
  • running
  • bike commuter

I jog a little (slowly), ride my bike to work and camp whenever I get the chance (which isn't often enough). Mostly do car camping these days, but have dreams of putting the pack on again.
