Elizabeth M.'s Review of Patagonia Down Sweater Hoody - Women's
I'd been looking for a lightweight down jacket that I could layer with my Patagonia GoreTex shell, and the down sweater hoody fit my needs perfectly. The more I wear this jacket, the more I love it, though it does have some downsides.
First, the good:
(1) It's remarkably warm for how light it is. I layer with it, and have no issues in less-than-freezing temps, though I haven't been out in sub-zero conditions yet. I do a lot of walking outside, and it keeps me really warm when moving. It is a JACKET, not a parka, so don't expect a ton of warmth, but it's totally suitable for what I need.
(2) Love the drawstring bottom and hood, which helps with a more customized fit, as well as the fleece face protector. Zippers are very smooth as well.
(3) Also love that it's very packable. I'll be taking this with me on backpacking trips for sure.
(4) It was really affordable, so thanks Campsaver! This was a huge selling point. I got the jacket for a little more than half price. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd pay full price for it, because I rarely pay full price for anything nowadays, thanks to Internet coupons and sales. :)
The not-so-good:
(1) My Patagonia shell is a size L, so I figured I'd order a L in this jacket as well. However, my shell is old, so I went to REI to try on this jacket ahead of time, and I'm glad that I did!
I ended up sizing up, as the fit of the L was too tight in the hips and shoulders. I have a lot more room in the XL (too much in the bust really), and am debating having it taken in at the front seams for a slightly more fitted look. The good thing about the larger size is I can layer a t-shirt, sweater and fleece jacket under it, and there is still plenty of room for my shell on top. I'd definitely recommend trying this on in person somewhere if you can, just in case.
(2) I wish the pockets were fleece lined. This would really be a huge selling point!
(3) I got the lighter turquoise color, and it does stain easily. The upside of this is it can be washed and dried at home.
Overall though, this is my favorite jacket. I never want to take it off! It's so soft and puffy, it's like wearing a cloud. :D
