I've been testing to determine JUST HOW water resistent they are. The answer is probably "not very", but certainly enough protection if the rain is light and you are not out too long.
When I tested them (raining less than 30 minutes), each place my skin touched the fabric (instead of clothes touching it) my skin got wet (hands and back of my neck). Eventually my knees also got a bit damp and cool. SO I would have gotten damper and colder if I had stayed out much longer in that rain.
Much as I expected really. I have had the Houdini jacket for at least a couple of years and I LOVE it! Never leave home without it. Great for wind as well. The pants are the same, and I will be taking them along on walks where I do not anticipate a downpour, nor many hours of light steady rain.
(FYI - I am female, but they don't make them in Women's anymore. It means they are probably a bit fuller above the hips, which I don't mind, but would have preferred a more feminine shape. BRING THEM BACK Patagonia!)
Very glad I got them. I will be taking them on 2-mo. trip to the UK this summer where I will be doing LOTS of walking. But I will also take my waterproof, breathable pair for days when these are insufficient.
