My first impression was that the down jacket part of the Tres Parka is very thin; I didn't realize that the Patagonia Down Sweater jacket is higher fill power than this (800 in the Down Sweater vs 600 in the Tres Parka). I don't think I'll be wearing the Tres Parka down jacket by itsself since my Down Sweater jacket would likely keep me warmer. But, I do like the removable shell for spring and fall use. I wore the Tres Parka with the shell and it kept me very warm in 30 degree, windy weather running errands (not outside longer than 10 minutes), but have yet to wear it in temperatures below 30. I’m guessing the Tres Parka will be better than my Patagonia Down Sweater jacket when it is windy, colder than 30 degrees, and/or rainy or snowy; otherwise, I think my Patagonia Down Sweater jacket will probably do the job just fine for winter use. For sizing reference, I am 5'4", 125lb, athletic to average build. The small fit ok (a little tight in the shoulders/back, especially with a sweater underneath) but I think a medium would probably be way too loose on me.
