You never realize how essential these are until it is too late. I never had balling problems with crampons until one weird almost spring day and then had an extra 5 lbs of snow on each foot and life was miserable. The Petzl plates work as well as any, and perform as advertised. If you have a version of the Leopard crampons, it would be wise to invest in these as well. Yes, they really should be included, but such is life. Recommended.
