Will never know - Petzl Boot Crampon, w/Flexlock

I intended to use these with heavy Scarpa SL Active backpacking boots as a more comfortable hiking alternative to my ice climbing boots for summiting NW volcanoes. The Scarpas are size 44.5, normal width. The Irvis crampons supposedly fit to size 46. Well they are too short even with the linking bar set on the last hole (by the way, the instruction sheet shows DANGER do not use the last 2-3 holes (max length adjustment...so why have them?). Sooo...I got online and ordered a set of LONG linking bars (Petzl calls them barrettes), which was specifically stated works for the Irvis and others. Wrong. It is cut differently at the head of the bar so it doesn't seat as far into the front half of the crampon, which means it ends up the exact same length. At this point I'm about 2 steps from tossing the whole lot in the dumpster.
