NEP's Review of prAna Brion Short - Men's
When I was shopping for shorts, I was searching for shorts that I could 1) take hiking/camping, 2) wear normally to school, work, out and about that do not look dorky, and 3) wear to the gym, a bonus point that I didn't expect but would be nice. I've had these shorts for a few weeks so far and have worn them often and these are by far my favorite shorts I've ever owned.
1) I haven't taken them hiking but did on a day trip to a national park and they were great. I was climbing rocks and hitting the dirt with ease, they were very mobile. Something to note is some would prefer the extra cargo pocket the Stretch Zion has when they're on hikes. Personally, I like to carry as little as possible in my pockets when hiking, so I don't miss the cargo pocket much. When backpacking, I just use my pack's hip belt pockets to carry my snacks, phone, whatever. The Brion's have two back pockets, two front pockets, and a small pocket inside the front right pocket. These shorts are good enough for me to replace my backpacking shorts.
While I haven't hiked properly in these yet, my job is very active. I usually walk about 5-6 miles per day, and I prefer to wear these shorts as much as I can, as they're very comfortable to move in.
2) I was looking for shorts that would look good enough to wear out and about because I didn't want to spend money on separate shorts for hiking, and separate shorts for "everyday" wear. I tried on the Prana Stretch Zion Shorts before buying these, and while I loved the fit and feel, I'm not a huge fan of the look of the cargo pocket and belt-ish part for everyday wear. Call me vain, but I'm a young guy in my early 20s and wanted something I could also wear to the beach, bars, park, school, etc. and look good in. They're so comfortable I don't even feel the need to change out of them as soon as I get home from anything.
3) I wore these to the gym and they were great. Granted, I haven't hit a 100% dedicated leg day in them yet, but from the workouts/warmups I did in them, plus what I've gathered from all of the other activities I've done in them, I know they'll work great.
Conclusion: Amazing shorts, so many uses. If you're still on the fence about them, go somewhere you can try them on. I found the Prana Stretch Zion Shorts easier to find, and if you like those but had the same concern as me, know the Brion are the exact same material but with a different style more fitting for everyday use.
