Dean D.'s Review of Rab Latok Mountain 3 Tent - Men's
I bought the Rab Latok Summit tent from Campsaver at this point in the website. It is listed as the Rab Latok Mountain 3 tent here but the picture is of the Rab Latok Summit. This Latok Summit tent is no longer made by Rab so I bought the last one at Campsaver for a good discount. The Rab Latok Summit is a small bivy type backpacking tent made for late fall / early spring / winter only (no bug screen and stuffy). It is made of Event fabric on the top, and a good waterproof bathtub bottom. The tent is common sense to set up, the two interior aluminum poles go from opposite corner to corner, cross at the top/middle, and attach to velcro clips inside the tent. Attaching the clips inside the tent is a hassle compared to tents with external clips, but it's not bad. It is listed as a 2 person tent, but they would be small people, and it would be cozy. Measured inside dimensions as set up in living room: Rectangular floor measures 85 inches long by 45 inches wide. The tallest part of the tent is 30 inches high at the middle. The dimensions are misleading as the tent gets smaller area wise as it goes up. All four sides are angled at a steep pitch. I'm 6'2" and it's small length wise for me with a winter sleeping bag. I can't sit straight up in the tent. The total weight is only 3.3 pounds, which is great for a "4 season" tent, and that is a major advantage to this tent. This tent is strong and light. The short height makes it great in the wind and it will take the snow. This tent is a niche tent for snow and cold camping. You have to have the one door open a little and the back wall circular 6 inch vent open to get air circulation. It gets condensation in the winter, but it's not bad if you have the door cracked and vent open (depends how bad it is snowing). I recommend for solo snow backpacking. If you are in bad winter weather, this tent is a life saver.
Pros:
Light and strong
Cons:
no bug screen
Best Used for:
snow backpacking
Would Recommend:
