I just wore them on a 4-day backpacking trip. They are lightweight and very effective at keeping debris out of my boots while on the trail and while bushwacking. There was no rain so I do not have an opinion on their ability to keep my ankles dry. It was necessary to remember they must be put on before my boots - a small compromise in order for them to be lightweight and non-bulky.
