I bought a positon pro jkt initially, then realised that i needed to keep it dry - being in the uk this wasn’t practical. So I identified the valiance as probably the best of both worlds with its waterproof outer. When i went to buy it I found the resolution was actually cheaper as it was in the sale so I bought it instead. Wow what a buy, very warm and totally waterproof, still beads after 2 years. Only issue is that its a little too warm at times but you can vent off pretty quickly. One major plus over the positron pro (apart from being waterproof) was that there was no cold spots at all - the p pro arms had cold spots. The hood is great, bit on the big side but really cosy. I mainly use mine for dog walking and hiking as im too old for climbing or backpacking now, but it would have been worth the pack size for the luxurious warmth - and its light under 1kg.

This coat is perfect for any cold condition. Used this coat on cold windy days in Boston over a T-shirt. In about 20º weather, felt like 13 with wind chill, on my walk around the city, completely warm. I'd say anything below 32º is comfortable for this jacket. Above which, you'd probably need to unzip the jacket to be comfortable. I haven't tried this on a day lower than 20º yet, but I'm very sure that it will perform well.
For a jacket so warm, it actually looks just fine and doesn't add too much fluff to make me look a Michelin man. It fit me fine. I'm 5'7 150 pounds and picked small. sleeves were a little long for me but there is a velco cuff so I could make it go to my wrist. Otherwise, the length goes down to about midthigh, which I think is perfect.
Highly recommend this jacket to anyone who runs cold, or wants absolute winter protection. The other warmer jacket than this one that rab makes is the batura, but apparnetly that's expedition grade and will probably only be useful if you went to the arctic.
Best Used for:
- cold, windy, and/or wet climates

Absolutely first class product. Very good balance between warmth and weather protection. The longer fit is most welcome.

I like this parka because of its design, waterproof shell, and 800fill down. The fit is snug (regular sizing) and the two-way zipper is nice! I didn't give it five stars, because with 12 ounces of 800fill down, I expect it to be warmer when just sitting around. When I was active, shoveling snow when it was 25 degrees, I was burning up with just one layer on.
Overall, it's a good parka, but I wish the down was a little thicker and warmer like my Mountain Hardware Chillwave.
