Celo626's Review of Sea to Summit Ether Light XT Insulated Sleeping Mat

I bought this as an "upgrade" from my ultralight sleeping pad, which will remain nameless. The main reason I bought this is in preparation for a 7 day backpacking trip in the Sierra's, where my comfort is going to take some priority over weight savings. With this pad, it comes with the inflation bag / stuff sack combo, adding to it's utilitarianism. I connected it to the two way valve quickly, and had it inflated within a matter of seconds. Very easy. The valve itself is smart in that with both parts connected, it's a one way valve only allowing air in. When you disconnect both interlocking parts, the pad quickly deflates from a massive opening. The design (buttoned?) provides extra cushion, and the pad itself does not make as much "crunchy/squeaky" noises when moving around on it. It also comes with a "pillow lock" feature, which I was not aware of, but can probably modify to secure my pillow to it. I wish there were extra pillow lock tabs with it so I could line it up with multiple pillows, but I think some velcro sticky tape can remedy that to be interchangeable with different pillows. Yes, it's a little heavier, but I think I'll be getting the last laugh when I'm sleeping soundly at camp.
Pros:
  • easy to inflate
  • quiet
  • Easy to deflate
  • Cushy
Cons:
  • a little heavy
  • need more pillow lock connectors
Best Used for:
  • Car Camping
  • Backpacking
