C. K.'s Review of Sherpa Nangpala Hooded Jacket - Women's
Having read many glowing reviews about this jacket, and owning several pieces of Sherpa apparel myself, I was fairly confident this jacket would be the solution to my grueling search for an everyday winter jacket. I could not have been more wrong. When standing with my arms at my sides, the jacket fit comfortably across the shoulders, but felt uncomfortably tight when crossing my arms. This is the first time I've had that problem. Being a swimmer and climber, I often feel tightness across the back of the shoulders, but never across the front. It's almost as if the sleeve and yoke were sewed in reverse. The overall shape of the jacket is horrible. It does not have the shaping visible in the product photo -- it hangs straight down, with at least three inches of excess on other side, and several inches of excess on the front and back. While I realize some extra room is necessary for accommodating layers underneath, this was just bad design. The large gaps under the hem that are caused by this excess would let in a significant amount of cold air, unless the hem were cinched . But cinching causes the jacket to puff out like a marshmallow, creating the other issue of too much dead space between inner and outer layers. These factors render this a completely useless jacket for colder weather conditions for both mountaineering and walking about town. The only good thing I have to say about this jacket is that construction is solid, and the materials seem to be of good quality.
