Coyote's Review of Sierra Designs Zissou Plus Sleeping Bag 700 Duck DriDown 2 Season

First of all the header erroneously indicates this bag has a 25 degree rating; it is NOT. SD's original (now deleted) web page for it named it the Zissou Plus 700/30. I bought mine from SD last winter on their 1/2 price closeout. Though I never slept outdoors I used it for weeks in an unheated country home at the 43-50 degree range wearing lightweight poly base top and bottom . Just getting into the bag would only take a couple of minutes to warm up and I was always toasty through my rest and being a 65 year old man I sleep on the cool side. I'm not certain what low would be the limit for me, but I'd guess frosty (mid to high 30s) in a tent would be. What I really liked was the quilt-like top, which I always left unzipped along with the entry zipper. I'm 5'/8" and an athletic light build at 135 lbs. and it's roomy. The fabric has fantastic feel to my skin. I had a warranty issue with mine that upon contacting SD was quickly remedied to my satisfaction. I now have a new Nitro 800/20 bag that more suits my need, but I miss the short zippered quilt design. "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need". Mick said it. I believe it. That settles it. LOL!!!
Pros:
  • Very lofty for a 34 oz. bag
  • Quilt top is cozy and easy to adjust sleeping
  • Materials and manufacture are top shelf
  • SD warrantied my bag for full credit toward my choice of Nitro 800/20
Cons:
  • Bottom of my bag had 5 empty chambers though it weighed out to specification
  • It's been discontinued
Would Recommend: Yes
