Orin F.'s Review of Sling Fin 2Lite Tent - 2 Person, 3 Season

I grabbed this tent in December 2015 from a local pro shop in Seattle. I had the opportunity to test it in a 2-day downpour last week.
So how did it perform? For the most part, flawlessly.
This is a unique, non-freestanding (but almost freestanding) 3-season tent. It can be set up quickly using just 4 stakes & 2 DAC poles, or really locked down using 8 stakes. The unique design provides exceptional headroom & space for a barely over 2 pound, 2-person double wall shelter.

First time setup is a little tricky - the shelter self-tensions by design, with the option of internally guying, if the need arises. Plainly put, this shelter may look fragile, but in practice it is not. It stayed pitched in a 2 day downpour on the Olympic Peninsula. In 48 hours of constant rain, all my gear stayed bone dry, and not a drop of condensation formed inside. I was amazed. It's a pretty impressive piece of engineering, and the price is crazy. The usability of this shelter is on par or superior to any MSR or Big Agnes ultralight product. It's that good. The only complaint I have at all is that getting a truly taught pitch on the rainfly is a little tricky, but after a few practice runs, its not an issue.

Finally, you can purchase the 2Lite Trek cross piece & convert this to a trekking pole supported shelter. Though it is so light already, I don't feel the need to shave the few ounces it saves. I sent an email to Slingfin, asking the price of the conversion - they answered my questions via email in under 20 minutes, on a Friday @ 4:30pm! Wow. FYI, the price of conversion kit was quoted to me as $55 + shipping. So for under $400, you get a sub 3 pound shelter, with incredible usable space, literally waterproof, packs down to nothing, can be pitched with 4 stakes (no fly), or 6 (with fly), rock solid customer service & truly unique design. Check it out.
