Avid Outdoorsman's Review of Sterling C-IV 9mm Rope
I have multiple ropes for rock climbing, rope climbing, rappelling, canyoneering, caving, etc. I bought this specifically for short rappels in a backpacking wilderness area. Many of the rappels are around waterfalls and wet. This rope is light, durable, somewhat stiff (but not as stiff as the 9.2 canyonero that I use for canyoneering), and doesn't absorb much water. It is the perfect rope for my intended purpose. When possible get the right rope for the right job; certain ropes excel in certain areas. I have used this rope with a classic 8, squarel, critr, mini rack, and munter. I like it best with a controlled descent device like the critr/squarel where friction can be added. It rappels fast, more like a 8mm rope. It's not terrible to rope climb but not great either. I don't use it to climb on, just for quick rappels, and it's great for that. I have used Campsaver for many, many, years and they have been a great company in regards to fair pricing, service, and value. They're a reputable outfit.
