ottoman16's Review of Trangia 25-3 Ul Hard Anodized Stove Kit

First off, let me say I love this stove and would buy it again but it could be improved.

My fiance and I took it on a 3 week trip through New Zealand and it worked flawlessly in every weather condition we met. 1L of methyl alcohol cost $5NZ and we used about 1/4 of it. Super cheap fuel. On the first use, I used straight alcohol which left a soot residue on the pots so I started diluting it with about 10% water and it burned perfectly clean after that.

I had 2 primary struggles. The handle is punched from sheet metal and bent into shape. It operates well but they did not de-burr it, leaving a sharp inside edge. The first time I used it on the non-stick pan, it scratched the outside paint. I needed to use sand paper on it to remove the sharp edges and smooth them over. Very frustrating for a kit in this price range.
2nd issue is the anodizing layer is very thin, practically skin deep. It takes less effort than I thought to scratch it.

The highs:
High quality aside from the handle
Great non-stick pan - still use silicone utensiles though
The burner is leak proof when stored with residual fuel
Anodizing is looks nice, promotes non-stick properties and easy to clean w/o scrubbing
Compact storage with internal room for utensils, spices and other small items inside.
Light weight for a large kit.

The lows:
Removable handle has sharp edges and requires deburing.
Aluminum dents easily
Anodizing is razor thin and scratches easier than it should
Storage bag not included, extra purchase
Pros:
  • Light weight
  • weather resistant
  • Anodized
  • Non-stick
  • low fuel costs
Cons:
  • sharp edges on handle
Best Used for:

  • Camping
