Dean D.'s Review of Western Mountaineering Badger GWS 15 Sleeping Bag

Wanted this bag for years, but never could afford one. Found a 7 footer on sale for 40% off (never seen a discount on WM like that before) so I bought it. I'm only 6'2", but I love Western Mountaineering (made in USA) sleeping bags, and the 7 footer was the only one on sale . I have older Western Mountaineering Bison GWS (rated to -40F) and Puma GWS (rated to -20F) sleeping bags, so i was already hooked on Western Mountaineering sleeping bags. My old 15F rated Marmot Helium Mem-brain bag finally started leaking feathers to the point where it was time to replace it. The Badger GWS has the Gore wind stopper outer shell which is water and wind repellant. What a great bag. The Badger is cut wider with 67" circumference shoulders (my Marmot was 64") on the 7 foot model and weighs 3 pounds. So warm, so roomy, no leaking feathers. It's worth the money and a little extra weight to get the quality of the Western Mountaineering Badger GWS. Rated at 15 degrees F, and I have no doubt it will do that. I've only had it out down to 25F, and was toasty. If you want the best 15 degree sleeping bag buy this.
Pros:
  • Warm and roomy
Cons:
  • weight a bit high
Best Used for:
  • Backpacking in comfort
