Amazing short fat quiver board for pow & carving soft groomers - Weston Backwoods Pow Slayer

About Me: 6’ 185 (190ish) with gear, Size 10 Feet (downsize to 9.5 in Burton Ions)
I wanted a new compact short/wide powder board and chose the Backwoods Pow Slayer 157 because I didn’t want to under size too much and lose versatility and floatation. The board has an unstated feature, it’s mildly convex/has lifted contact points from the tip about to the front binding (like Jones) which prevents hooking when rolling the flats. The flex of the board is a bit on the firm side but it’s strongly directional with tip being a bit softer and the tail firmer. The board’s tip is also noticeably more compliant to torsion than the tail. The pinned nose is plenty big for comfortable all mountain riding and tail is turned up but very minimally past the rear contact point. The Backwoods Pow Slayer 157 planes fast in powder and is very loose and agile until you commit an edge to turn or dive into a slash. As advertised, the board is incredibly agile in powder, be it trees, alder, chutes or pillowly zones. You can zip around trees and drive in a little deeper into powder pockets than masses on the mountain and slash or slarve like a Wildman on the Backwoods Pow Slayer. It’s really fun to hunt those later in the day uncut pockets on the Backwoods Pow Slayer and slash. When you depart the pow and head back to the soft groomed snow, the Backwoods Pow Slayer is a carving beast right there with Korua boards like the Dart, Stealth or Pencil. The Backwoods Pow Slayer is more forgiving than the Korua boards and a little easier to engage with the tighter side cut and more forgiving torsional compliance at the tip. If the groomers are perfect and you can sink an edge in the corduroy the Pow Slayer is incredibly fun to carve around. If it’s trending to ice or firm conditions leave the Backwoods Pow Slayer at home and ride your daily driver.
