Roll up your sleeves, grab an ax, and show your friends and family how much of a Man you are by splitting a log and using the MITI-001 to make breakfast. The MITI-001 by Sportes is very easy to pack and use. It weighs only 2.5 lbs and incorporates the use of the Swedish Log as a heat source. So there is no need to haul fuel with you and it's as effective as large wood or gas stoves. The MITI-001 is made from Swedish 304L 1/8 thick stainless steel which was laser cut and bent.
Features of Sportes MITI-001 Log Grill:
MITI-001 Stainless Steel Stovetop
Four Steel anchorage rods
Storage Bag
Everything else you need can be found in the woods.
1. Find a flat ground surface, ideally soil, or gravel, or sand.
2. Create a safety zone around the cooking area by removing all flammable materials found on the ground within said area.
3. For optimal results, Sportes strongly advise using a wood log with a diameter of between 7.5 and 9 inches and a maximum height of between 12 and 14 inches. The log should be straight and flat at both ends
4. Carefully split the log in two, and then split it each of these pieces to yield four symmetrical pieces.
5. Set the four pieces of the log vertically on the ground, leaving an inch of space between them. Try to place the pieces in the same order as when split. Make sure that they are installed so that they are steady on the level surface.
6. Place MITI on top of the four pieces by placing its four fins in the four gaps. MITI must be level and stable. Spread the base of the 4 logs in a slight pyramidal angle.
7. Secure MITI by inserting the four steel rods in the four punched corners. The rods should never be hammered in the wood ! they are meant to be used as exterior structure to keep the 4 logs together. Ensure that the installation is stable and that the retaining structure firmly secures the four wood pieces. Should you lose or misplace the steel rods, please contact Sportes.
8. To start the fire, fill the gaps with small branches, paper and bark, up to half the height of the wood pieces. Ensure that the filler does not exceed the diameter of the four wood pieces.
9. Adjust rod pressure (Grip) according to the diameter of your log. (If needed, a wire may be used to further stabilize the assembly by wrapping it around the base of the rods.)
10. Before lighting the fire, place your frying pan or pot on top in order to ensure its overall stability (wood pieces, MITI, rods and cooking device). It is recommended to maximize the space between the four pieces on the ground to increase stability. Only use cooking devices that are adapted to this type of open fire cooking avoid materials not adapted to fire-based cooking or cooking devices that are particularly heavy. Do not use cooking devices that are larger than the MITI base.
11. Once you have confirmed the stability of your assembly, place your cooking device on the ground.
12. Light the fire by starting with the four gaps. Once the fire has caught, be careful not to manipulate MITI and the four rods as they will become extremely hot.
13. Wait a few minutes for the smoke and flames to dissipate to place your cooking device on top of the assembly. Always be cautious of the stability of the structure and always grab your cooking pot or pan by the handle , using a glove or dishcloth to prevent movement of the structure when you are manipulating the food .
14. After you have completed cooking, handle MITI and the rods with caution as they may still be hot. Use a poker or stick if needed.
15. NEVER LEAVE THE MITI upside down on the ground and the four rods upwards. Make sure the rods are out of the MITI. Wait until they have completely cooled down before attempting to handle them.
MITI is made out of stainless steel corrosion-resistant, but to ensure its full efficiency and to maintain its appearance, it should be wiped down after each usage and free of grease, water or food. The four rods are made of steel and may eventually show signs of corrosion. To extend their life, wipe them dry after use and store them in a dry place protected from extreme weather conditions.
