By far the best for ice and shallow snow/icy conditions. Deep snow on ice they slide for a couple of inches until they penetrate to ice. I have not fallen in these conditions as they do grab in a couple of seconds

Go with the XL. The sizes for men are XS 5-6, S 6.5-8, M 8.5-10.5, L 11-12.5, XL 13-14.5, XXL 15-16
