Product Info for Tenkara USA Amago Fly Rod

The Tenkara USA Amago Fly Rod is named after one of Japan's most beautiful mountain stream trout, the Amago is the longest rod produced by Tenkara USA at 13ft and 6inches long (410cm). Longer rods provide distinct advantages over shorter rods. We recommend using the longest rod you can for the stream you are fishing. The Amago is sure to become a quick favorite for its versatility and reach. Based on the request of several tenkara anglers this rod has a matte black finish for reduced light reflection. The handle was meticulously designed to provide good counterbalance to the long rod and for extra comfort on a long day of casting your delicate line and fly . The wider end of the handle serves two purposes: it provides a slightly better counter balance to the rod, and serves as a good grip for using the full length of the rod. The Amago is a lightweight 6:4 rod. The 6:4 action provides an accurate pin-point casting action. The light weight of the rod, similar to the popular Iwana rods, makes this rod a delight catch fish of any size.image

Features of Tenkara USA Amago Fly Rod:

  • Tenkara rods are ultra-portable, very lightweight and will telescope into a mere 20 inches or so, which makes them excellent for backpacking while remaining efficient for fishing most streams. All tenkara rods are appropriate for small stream angling - in other words, you really can't go wrong with your choice. Each rod has distinct characteristics. The Yamame is a heavier rod ideal for those consistently catching fish over 16". The Ayu and Ebisu rods are in the mid-weight range; the 13ft Ayu provides some extra reach, and the 12ft Ebisu has very unique and durable red-pine handle. The Iwana rod is the lightest and perfect for the smaller streams and smaller fish and weight-conscious backpackers or those who want the lightest feeling rod. The action of tenkara rods is defined as a ratio that indicates how many "bottom parts are stiffer : tip parts are more flexible". Rod action should be chosen based on personal preference for more flexible or stiffer rods, and size of fish targeted. For example, a 5:5 rod for slower casting and smaller fish, a 7:3 rod for larger fish.
  • Every rod is 100% guaranteed for its life
  • Use only tippet of 5lbs breaking strength or less (usually 5X, 6X or 7X).
  • Tenkara rods are unique and come with complete instructions on how line attaches (girth hitch at the rod tip), instructions on proper care, and tips for success.
  • All Tenkara rods come packaged in a rod sock and custom rod tube.
  • The Tenkara Action Index tells how stiff the rod is. The higher the number the more rigid the flex.
  • 1.40 of all Tenkara rod sales will go directly to conservation efforts

I suppose you can grow your own bamboo and be more natural but it will be harder to hike in. This is the high tech version of natures perfect fishing pole, carbon fiber, how cool is that? Use it as it is intended and you will certainly enjoy your fish and fishing.

The Amago rod has a very natural feel to it. It is easy to place fly over current flow to avoid drag on small stream fishing. Not having a reel to help land fish takes some getting use to.
